Health Care Connect featured as Success of PA Smart Initiative

Labor & Industry Highlights Wolf Administration’s $40 Million PAsmart Investment in Pennsylvania Workforce Development

Mary Kay Owen – Health Care Connect Consultant, participated in an event hosted by Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Secretary Jennifer Berrier to celebrate the achievements of Governor Tom Wolf’s PAsmart initiative, through which the commonwealth has invested more than $40 million since 2018 to enhance opportunities for Pennsylvania workers through apprenticeship programs and to strengthen Pennsylvania’s overall economy through industry partnerships.

“When the Wolf Administration launched the PAsmart initiative in 2018, it was our goal to dismantle barriers separating Pennsylvania workers from in-demand job skills and family-sustaining wages. We did not know that a pandemic would upend the global economy just a few years later – creating even more urgency to identify and implement solutions,” Berrier said. “This work is even more important today than it was when the PAsmart initiative began. The challenges of our economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic are significant, but Pennsylvania is overcoming those challenges because we have invested in collaboration across the commonwealth to build innovative apprenticeship programs and strengthen partnerships among industry leaders.”

List of Speakers:
Jennifer Berrier – Secretary of Labor & Industry (L&I)
Tara Loew – Director of L&I’s Apprenticeship and Training Office
John Tkach – Executive Director of Keystone Development Partnership
James Martini – Director of the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board
Michael Joynes – Vice President of Philadelphia Works
Mary Kay Owen – Health Care Connect Consultant, Chester County Economic Development Council

Ice Cream & Appreciation!

HCC Brings Maggie Moos to Area Providers

To express appreciation and lower health care worker stress levels, Health Care Connect (HCC) treated several of our partners to ice cream! In June, the Maggie Moos ice cream truck visited four area HCC partner sites.

HCC also purchased and distributed Wawa gift cards to patient care techs, nurse aides, medical assistants, and transport staff at Main Line Health, Penn Medicine, Pro-Medica, Harrison House, Kendal, LCH Health Services, ChesPenn Medicine, Simpson Meadows, Jenner’s Pond, and Uwchlan Ambulance to help with transportation costs for healthcare employees.

Finding short and long-term solutions to transportation costs and access issues is an HCC priority.

Serving up more than 600 scoops of ice cream and toppings, along with the gift cards and other giveaways, supported HCC’s goal of reaching out to healthcare systems to celebrate workers and their commitment to the community!

“It was a wonderful treat for our team.  A little rain was not going to keep folks away from great ice cream!”   Jim Paradis, President –  Paoli Hospital/Main Line Health

“I am so excited that Harrison House of Chester County has been chosen by HCC to have Maggie Moos come have ice cream for our heroes.”  Jean C. Bryan, BS, PCHA – Executive Director  Harrison House

“So much fun!  The staff really enjoyed it – was a great treat for everyone…Thank you so much!!!”  Thao Wesler, RN, NHA – ProMedica Administrator
